Default hdd not recognised in vista

iv recently put a new hard drive in my pc but windows vista wont recognise
that it is there. it appears in the bios and under partitioning programs but
not any were in vista. not even the disk management.

did you perchance install a SATA HD without installing the SATA drivers from
you mobo???
Is the Drive showing under Device Manager??

it is a sata hd and i havn't installed anything. so what do i do?

Find the SATA drivers for your particular mobo chipset....mobo manufact.
website...and then install them.
