Default Wireless networks renamed in numerical order by Vista?

Hi,

I have an issue with my Windows Vista Ultimate where if I connect to a
wireless connection that has already been connected to once in the past, that
new wireless connection will be renamed with a number after it. For example,
I first connect to a wireless network named "netgear" and disconnect, then
reconnect to "netgear" and it will automatically be renamed by Vista to
"netgear 2" and sometimes even "netgear 3" and so on. I was just wondering
how I can put an end to this as it does interfere with a VPN connection I use.

Thanks for your support!
