Using Vista Ultimate at home over a standard (default settings) VPN to work
network, connecting via RDC to Vista Business. Everything worked fine for a couple of hours and now the connection keeps failing with the error: "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again." Trying to reconnect within the next 5 minutes or so appears to connect to the remote computer as far as the screen that would normally display the CTRL+ALT+DEL login option but instead of that the following error is displayed: "This network connection does not exist" With an OK button. Clicking OK closes the connection. I've done some searching and all I can find is a mention of GigE causing this error but we aren't on GigE just Fast ethernet. Anyi deas? |

Network resources or certain programs may be preventing (hogging bandwidth) proper network communication from occuring. Try restarting the server or PC. If you are not the administrator then he/she will have to reset your RDP settings. You can try (if you are the admin) sending a "shutdown -r -t 01" script to restart your computer remotely if you can get to the command prompt fast enough before the protocol error knocks out your connection. Wait a few minutes and you should be able to remote in without the error. You can then troubleshoot what program was hogging/locking up resources.
