DVD drives are STILL disappearing, Microsoft...
Fresh new PC, loaded OEM Vista Home Premium from DVD drive, Plextor PX-800A.
Install went swimmingly. I ran Windows Update, now my DVD drive is gone from My Computer, does not appear in Device Manager. The System Event Log shows the cdrom driver didn't load; no clue is given about why. Changed the cable, tried cable select, changed the drive for another new one. No luck. The only *working* KB reference links on this page go to the same place, the Upper and Lower Filters patch. The other KBs mentioned are dead links, which we all see after we have wasted our time looking for them. Why isn't this issue fixed by now? Why isn't this forum issue moderated better? Unhappy system builder. |

Hi Bill,
Why isn't this issue fixed by now? Because the problem isn't caused by Windows, it's caused by the installation or removal of third party drivers. Why isn't this forum issue moderated better? These are unmoderated forums, the only controls in place are those each sets on oneself. While the host, Microsoft, does some content filtering, these groups are generally self-regulated. No one actively monitors them. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Bill Hill" wrote in message ... "The problem isn't caused by Windows"
Not true. Did not install or remove any 3rd party drivers. so the official position is the SOFTWARE works, only not with a wide range of HARDWARE which has already passed compatibility testing? How can I sell a PC with no DVD drive? "Rick Rogers" wrote: Hi Bill, Why isn't this issue fixed by now?
