computer is set to never go to sleep. 3 eeks ago, after having this setting for nearly 3 months, vista starts to turn off the monitor than it logs me off-not a huge deal really-but having to put my password in every single time just builds headaches. i don't want to remove the password either, i just don't want to be logged out anymore! please help! -- thanks for the help |

Hi, sbmann ... I can understand how you feel ... I have posted stuff and saw
no response and it made me wonder if everyone had blocked me out/set me to ignore ... (g) I didn't know the answer to your problem so I didn't post anything ... still don't know how to fix it but will see what I can find out ... vanilla "sbmann" wrote in message ... sure, everyone can help with the easier problems like; "my vista upgrades won't install!" but when it comes to a reoccuring problem----you guys skip it and say"....uhhhhhhhh.....iono....." then you post a 20 replies answering the same problem. i just need a little bit of help, take some time away from WoW and contribute something to everybody elses real problems-be usefull -- thanks for the help "sbmann" wrote: my power settings are so that the screen shuts off every minute, and the computer is set to never go to sleep.

OK ... back from supper ... now:
If you are running Vista, go in to Control Panel -- Personalization -- Screen Saver Or, you can right-click on the Desktop and choose Personalize ... that will take you to the Personalization Control Panel quickly. Make sure that "On resume, display logon screen" is not checked. If it is, uncheck it. This setting makes you enter your password again every time the screen saver kicks in. Next, in the same Screen Saver Settings screen, click on "Change power settings" down near the bottom left (you can also reach this through Control Panel -- Hardware and Sound -- Power Options.) There are several settings on the left that you should check to make sure they are set the way you wish ... Sometimes, when we receive updates from Microsoft, settings like these can end up being changed as a result of the new updates. This has happened to me many times over the years. I am not saying that this is what caused the desired behavior on your machine to change, only that it is a possibility. If all of these settings are the way you want ... and you find "On resume, display logon screen" is NOT checked but this behavior is still happening, then there are two other places to look: 1) group/local policy; and 2) the registry. Working with admin tools or editing the registry are things that need care in the doing of them. If setting things the way you want them in Personalization and Power Options doesn't fix the problem, please let us know and we can see what we can find from there. vanilla "sbmann" wrote in message ... sure, everyone can help with the easier problems like; "my vista upgrades won't install!" but when it comes to a reoccuring problem----you guys skip it and say"....uhhhhhhhh.....iono....." then you post a 20 replies answering the same problem. i just need a little bit of help, take some time away from WoW and contribute something to everybody elses real problems-be usefull -- thanks for the help "sbmann" wrote: my power settings are so that the screen shuts off every minute, and the computer is set to never go to sleep.

Short in the dark... Your power settings changed and the computer is going to sleep? Failing that, screen saver settings are set to lock workstation. Beyond that, no guesses. -- You can get more with a kind word and a 2x4 than just a kind word. |
