a) disable all the start up programs UNLESS you feel that they are
extremely needed for you
b) disable all third party service(listed out in msconfig)

I know its an age old problem, but this is baffling me.My computers
clean, defragged and running fine. But booting takes forever. In safe
Mode it starts fine, the windows bar only goes across 3 times before log
on page. But normally the bar goes across 25 times before continuing. In
the boot log the prefetchbootinit seems to be taking about 40 secs, and
causing the problem. I only have 5 startup programs which have been
disabled, but problem persists. Ive cleaned out the prefetch folder,
still a problem. What i have noticed though, is that the readyboot folder
in the prefetch folder is always empty. Apparently this is needed to
speed up the boot.Could this be the problem? and does anyone know if the
readyboot folder should be empty?Thanx in advance.
