nVidia Geforce 6800 fan doesn't go off
Hi,
in XP the fan was only running when TV functionalty etc. was used, but in Vista it's running right from the start. Turned already Aero off but the fan doesn't go off. Any ideas ? |

Simple answer.
Vista's graphics require more from the video card. This is why Vista requires a higher grade card. On the bright side, by using more of your GPU, it frees up your CPU. Vista requires more resources, but it manages the resources better. Hope that helps :-) "Stefan Eesmann" wrote in message ... It make be possible to use rivatuner http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8 Though i am not sure if it is Vista compatible yet. With this you can set the max speed the fan will run at under certain loads & keep it below audible levels outside of games. |

nVidia Geforce 6800 fan doesn't go off
I had the same problem with my GeForce 7600 GT. No matter what powerplan I
select the fan runs constantly. Running Home Premium; clean install. Fixed by (right click desktop, Personalize; Screensaver; Change power settings...) 1) Select Power saver 2) Change plan settings 3) Change advanced power settings, then OK. I didn't mess with any of the settings. The fan turned off. Hopefully this behavior will be fixed by a driver update. I don't want my graphics card fan on all the time. Even if Balanced or High performance is selected. "Stefan Eesmann" wrote: Hi, in XP the fan was only running when TV functionalty etc. was used, but in Vista it's running right from the start. UPDATE
Here is my fix. I'm using the 100.65 WHQL 32 driver btw. I have a 7600 GT Note: Ntune is not a good workaround. 1. It is meant for Nvidia motherboards. 2. The fan only remains quiet for a given session, a reboot or putting the system to sleep and re-awakening returns the fan to full speed. 3. Ntune is buggy with Vista. Open Power Options/Settings and select Power saver as the plan. Click on Change plan settings for the Power saver. In the next window select Change advanced power settings In the Power Options Advance settings scroll down and expand Processor power management. For both Minimum processor state and Maximum processor state set both to 100%. Click ok Save changes. Note: It may take a minute or 2 for the graphics card fan to go off after performing these steps. This is working flawlessly for me so far. Hope this helps everyone else and spread the word if it does! I know a lot of people are annoyed by this bug until a real fix comes from Nvidia.
