My laptop running Vista business cannot see my XP desktop
I have a desktop computer running XP Pro SP2 and a laptop running Vista
Business. The desktop is connected via ethernet to a Linksys 4 port router/WAP and the laptop connects thru the wireless network. Everything was working fine until yesterday when I discovered I could not print from the laptop to the printer connected to the desktop (I was able to last week). I now find that I can see the laptop from the desktop but I can't see the desktop or printers from the laptop. I suspect an update to either Vista or XP has caused this as I haven't made any configuration changes recently. I have followed the Knowledge Base article that deals with this issue but it has not resolved the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi Chuck,
Thanks or your advice. A friend who has an identical laptop visited my on the weekend ad he was able to connect to my desktop without any problem which led me to believe that something had corrupted in my Vista OS. I restored from an image I took a few months ago and I'm back to being able to see my desktop shared folders and printers attached to it. However, I have discovered 2 other issues that I'd like your thoughts on. 1. Vista network map now shows the desktop but can't place it on the map even though the netowrk location is "Private" 2. When I try to turn off password protected sharing in the network and sharing centre and chose Apply, it still shows password protected sharing as on. I have disabled the blank password option in the security policy but still can't turn it off. Everything was working fine until yesterday when I discovered I could not print from the laptop to the printer connected to the desktop (I was able to last week). I now find that I can see the laptop from the desktop but I can't see the desktop or printers from the laptop. I suspect an update to either Vista or XP has caused this as I haven't made any configuration changes recently. I have followed the Knowledge Base article that deals with this issue but it has not resolved the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If I simply type browstat it shows me the list of options but browstat status just returns me to C:\ 2. How do I know if the nvidia firewall is running? Highlight then Copy the code (Ctrl-C), precisely as it is presented, and Paste (Ctrl-V) into Notepad. 3. Examine the contents of Notepad. Is the text, as copied, readable (similar in format to the Base Code)? It won't run well, if it's not easily readable. 4. If the text is not easily read, then: * Stretch the sides of the Notepad window. If this improves things, then continue with Step 5. * Close Notepad, as is (do not bother to save anything). * Open Notepad. * Under Format, reverse the setting for Word Wrap.
