Hello,
When installing Vista pre-rc, the installer will get to where its about to launch the desktop, 'll see the Vista wallpaper but then the screen will go black (with a blinking cursor in the top-left for a couple minutes, then totally black) I then hit the reset buttin and get to the os choice screen. The only two choices are to remove the failed Vista install or boot to XP. The first choice just deletes the Vista files and then takes me back to XP. If I choose XP (or old installation) I can boot to XP and view all the Vista files and logs. What log (and where would it be found) that woule aid in troubleshooting this issue? I'm thinking that the problem is with the 7950 vid card. With the Vista Beta, I had to boot to safe mode and disable one of the video cards ( I was running 2-7900s then). Since I can't get to safe mode, there's no way to disable one of the video cores. Here's my system specs: AMD FX-60 Watercooled w/Danger Den TDX Waterblock PC Power and Cooling 510SLI EVGA 7950 2 WD 250 GB SATA in RAID 0 1 WD 360 GB SATA (my backup drive) ABIT Fatal1ty SLI 2 GB OCZ Platinum Dell 2405FPW X-FI Elite Pro Logitech Z2300 2.1 Speakers Logitech G7 mouse Thunder 8 mouse pad Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edison |

Hello All,
Here is what I found out.........today. 1. IF you have any anti-virus on the Beta 2, Unstall it. I had McAfee 8.0i installed with Beta 2. (per thier instuctions) and it crashed on the final leg of UPdating to the Pre-RC1 "Finalizing Installation", it then reverted back to the Beta release. 2. When I Insatlled a new copy of the PRe-RC1 in renamed the Beta installation windows.old and a new fresh working installation up and running. TILL I INSTALLED MCAFEE 8.0i per McAFee. that is where it blows up. "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" (Amazing that it still exists) You need to go into SAFEMODE and then Services then Disable the McAFee startups. It will be on your system but the system will start once you reboot. Problem, You will not be able to unistall what was put on becauise it did not finsih the installation procedure. Which in turn you cannot install the FEEDBACK form application cause it says the Anti virus is not running but you can't unistall it.... So, do a fresh install and stay away from McAfee 8.0i till tehy get it straighted out. Why does'nt Microsoft have a Trial Period with thier LIVE ONE CARE....? Purchased product says it supports VISTA....(Unless False Adverstiment) Andre -- Andre "Dr. Edison" wrote: Sorry about the 2 posts, I received an error after trying to post the first one (and second) saying my message was not posted. Hi Phil,
No luck yet. I'm going to try a single core video card and see if the helps. "PhilMaznyk" wrote: Dr. Edison, were you ever able to get this issue resolved. I have an old 6000 series card here and I'm going to put it in & install
Visat. If all goes well with the install, I'll then try putting in the 7950 and booting to safe mode, disabling the 2nd gpu and we'll know if that's the way to install Vista with a 7950. I'll post later tonight with the results... Disable one of your gpus before installing Vista. Currently, dual gpus in
sli/crossfire mode are not supported. Alos, remove any USB devices apart from keyboard/mouse. -- Jane, not plain 64 bit enabled ![]() Batteries not included. Can't do that with a 7950...at least as far as I know. The only way to do
that is to disable one of the gpus in device manager. Can't get into device manage because Vista won't complete its install. "Jane C" wrote: Disable one of your gpus before installing Vista.
