Depends on if you upgrade or not. RC1 is a full OS and not a patch. I however, recommend a clean install with this build.

I personally have not tried that. However, I would backup any files and do a clean install.

According the the Microsoft Vista website, you can uprade to RC1 from Beta
2. They do recomend that you install any updates to Beta 2 before
upgrading...

I tried to to install RC1 as a clean install on a new drive, but I had so
many problems and could not get services running, password was messed up,
etc, so finally reformatted and installed beta 2 again. Had to start in safe
mode or it just keeps rebooting. Once i got driver issues settled and got a
normal boot, I upgraded to RC1. It took over an hour for the upgrade, but
finally finished. Now running beautifully, much smoother than the beta 2. If
it works this nicely now, should be much more refined by launch. Very
impressive. I will run for a while and then probably switch to my "new
machine". Have a KVM switch and two machines because dual boot bites big
time!
