Default Wireless NIC won't activate

I was stupid and picked up a laptop that the wireless on was controlled by a
button. that button ran a small program to turn on the wireless, i formatted,
forgot to back up that program, and now i can't run my laptop wirelessly. I
typically used the BIOS setting to automatically activate my wireless, but
that doesn't seem to be working either... i can't do the tech support through
the manufacturer, because the company doesn't exist... they got bought out by
someone else, and now they don't offer any support for their laptops... could
someone tell me a way to either make a program to activate my wireless, or
how to set the BIOS up to actually activate like it's set to??

yes...but the problem isn't finding the network... in a sense... if my
wireless NIC that's built into the laptop would activate, , then i could find
a network... but it won't. as far as i read, that's simply how to set up a
network, it shows nothing on what happens if the NIC won't activate...
