I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this... I'm new to the

Background info:
Vista, 32bit
HP Pavilion6707
I've been having trouble with my computer not going past a black screen
and a few green lines at the bottom (a word too, but don't remember)
during startup
When this happens, I unplug and remove the battery, wait and then
restart it.
It brings me to the start system restore OR launch normally.
I always choose the system restore, and allow it to restore to the most
recent point.
Today, I encountered an errror message, that would not allow me to
complete the system restore.
The message was:
Instruction at 0x74be060z referenced memory at 0x00000000
memory could not be read
Now, I am not at ALL computer inclined (with regards to the inside....
I'm good with programs and the like) I am also disabled, so any
explanation needs to be almost like your explaining it to my 10 yr
old.... lol
Step by step would be appreciated, and any layman's terms awesome.
Although it's impossible to be definitive without seeing the machine and
knowing what the word at startup was, it sounds to me like you have some
hardware failure. Since you reference a battery, this must be a laptop and
since you say you aren't computer-savvy, back up your data to CD/DVD-R
and/or an external hard drive. Then contact HP tech support for
repair/replacement. Hopefully the laptop is still under warranty. Or you
can consult a competent local computer tech to perform some diagnostic
tests. I don't recommend using a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.
