Default Vista 64 Error message

Hello.. Oh great wise ones, I am a new user of OS 64, initial setup was
fine..until I tried to install some old programs that were for windows
XP (that won't work on the new system) Now I believe I have some old
half installed programs causing dll error issues, plus I keep getting an
error messages that says "access is denied" error (0X8007005) I searched
around until I found this forum and even tried the admins suggestion of
trying the CClean program but I can't get it to install to clean my
computer I keep getting the access denied, oh and it is my personal PC
so when my son set it up, he set me as the user/administrator is there
any way that could have changed and that is the reason for the error
message? I am very frustrated as this machine isn't 6 months old. Any
ideas or suggestions as to what I need to do? Do they have an OS 64 for
dummies book?
Thank you in advance for your assistance
D
