Back up Vista Home Premium
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit box. The windows backup application that
comes with this version of vista backs up strategic files only. It is not a
disk image backup like popular backup apps out there. I think I prefer this
type of backup because it is a smaller backup file than the disk image apps.
There is shockingly little detail in the vista help describing how to use
this backup. I just have to trust that it is backing up what I want backed
up and that it is not missing anything I want to keep.
Here are my questions:
1. Is there anyplace on the Internet that explains using this backup in more
detail?
2. What does Vista/Windows Backup specifically back up? It does say what it
backs up in extremely general terms but I would like more detail. (Hope it
backed up what I want vs. I know for sure it backed up what I want)
3. I run Outlook 2002 for calendar and Contacts only. (For syncing to my
pocket PC). Does Vista/Windows Backup backup Outlook 2002 as is or do I
have to backup Outlook 2002 separately to a folder in my user account before
I run Vista/Windows Backup?
4. I use Windows Mail that came stock in Vista as my email client. I assume
Vista/Windows Backup backs up all my saved email, email accounts and
addresses. Am I correct?
5. Other applications, like my investment software, have native backup of
strategic files to any folder I chose. I back it up to a folder in my user
account. When I run Vista/Windows Backup I assume it includes my investment
software backups in the Vista/Windows Backup. Am I correct?
6. What is the specific procedure to do a restore if I need to? After
restoring Vista from the Acer image restore cd's, which restores it to
exactly the way it was when I took it out of the box new (bloatware and
all), do I run vista restore or do I install my applications (Outlook 2002
and investment software, etc.) and then run vista restore?
