1. XP Home can only use 3GB of RAM. Try a dual boot first and see if it
helps

2. You Can upgrade the ram just make sure it's compatable.

3. Vista has some lag problems. If you are experiencing problems at
boot try doing a full defrag. Assuming Vista lives on C:, open a command
prompt window and type

defrag c: -w

Or all drives:

defrag -c -w

Use -v for more detailed output.
