Hi,
I've read, researched, broke down and went to Dell tech support and nothing. I have an XP Machine with a printer attached and shared locally. I have a new Vista Laptop that I want to use to connect to the printer on the network. I have another laptop that runs XP and I have no problem. I have done the suggested install the printer local and then connect to it by creating a new port. The printer works when I connect it local to the laptop, but "cannot communicate" when it is shared on the network. I can share files all across the network, but not this printer. Printer is a Dell 946. Of course Dell suggested upgrading PC to Vista. That can't be the only viable solution besides purchasing print server that actually sits on the network. Can Someone come up with something else that I may have overlooked? I've read through all the threads here and other places (they all pretty much say the same). Thanks in advance. -- new old guy.. |
