desktop = windows vista ultimate x64
laptop = windows xp home edition printer = Epson Stylus CX6000 they're on the same workgroup. i have printer sharing enabled and password protection of it disabled. but browsing with XP cannot detect the printer (though it does detect the desktop), and when i connect manually it gives me access denied errors and won't print. i haven't installed drivers on the XP laptop, but all the guides say that printer sharing is supposed to do it automatically. |

Saying that printer sharing is supposed to do it automatically is an exaggeration. Depending upon the drivers, they may work with no explicit effort by you, but that's a driver issue. You may need to read the user guide for the CX6000 very closely, and find out how to make the printer client and the printer server work properly. How is the printer physically connected? http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/05/file-sharing-and-printer-sharing-are.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/0...aring-are.html There are issues with Windows Vista, that aren't addressed by Microsoft. Can you get file sharing working first? http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html#Printers http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1....html#Printers -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
