Default READ THIS IF YOU CANNOT GET DRIVE TO READ DISK TO FIX VISTA ERROR!

If you cannot get your drive to recognize your disk, i.e., you insert a disk
and in my computer, you click on drive and it says to insert disk even though
there is a disk in there (blank or written), THIS SHOULD WORK!!! GIVE IT A
TRY!!!

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/929461/en-us

Basically it says the following if you cannot get link to work.

1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit
in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type
your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned
in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey
before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that
you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data
value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

If this doesn't work, let me know. I did this a couple of months back
because it would not read any disk, and had to do it again because it would
not read some disks. I don't know how problem reappeared, but the solution
seems to work for a while.

Every forum I've read about this problem leads me to delete the Upper
and Lower Filters but in my case they are not present when I went into
Regedit. I actually added UpperFilters with Data Value "PartMgr" and
it now sees the Cd Rom but it still does not work. Any help with my
Sony Vaio???

I too go in regedit and the UpperFilter and LowerFilter entries are not
there! I'm at a loss at what to do.
