Default VPN & Mapping

I am trying to connect my Vista Home Premium laptop to my company Server2k3
network via VPN.

I can connect successfully to the server/domain, but am unable to map any
network shares. If I try to map to \\pdc\share I get 'Network path not
found'.

I found a KB article about DNS suffix that advised adding the domain to the
ipv4 config, but this didn't work.

This seems to be Vista specific as I can map all network shares on an XP
laptop using the same settings.

Anyone have any ideas?

Default VPN & Mapping

Can you map using IP? If yes, this could be the name resolution issue. This
post may help.

VPN Name ResolutionSeems stupid that windows vista doesn't use the FQDN for
the map, but you need to use it for the map to be available over a VPN
connection. We us VPN ...

Default VPN & Mapping

I tried to map the shared drive both ways - \\server\share and
\\192.168.254.250\share and both failed with the same message. I can ping
the server. I also tried to see the server files vis the 'run' command. Same
result.

Interestingly, none of the vista pc's in the office list the server in the
network view, although we I can force a mapping by using one of the methods
above.

I am beginning to think that it is a vista bug.

Assuming you can ping the server by IP, what's the system error if use this
command: net view \\192.168.254.250?

Default VPN & Mapping

Thanks Robert,

I'll try the FQDN and net view suggestions on monday and re-post if it
doesn't solve the problem, or at least give me more clues.

Default VPN & Mapping

Alan/Robert,

I seem to be having the same problem when trying to see network shares over
VPN with a Vista Home Premium client. Can I presume, since you didn't post a
reply, that you managed to solve your problem?

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks Mark.
