If the keyboard is cordless, replace the batteries; otherwise replace the
keyboard.

I'm having the same problem on my HP. It appears to be Vista related as
many people with different computers are having the same problem. Any
solutions yet?

My virus scanner was causing the problem. Deleted the old one and
installed a new one. Now it works great.

I had this _exact_ problem on my wife's *HP nx9600* laptop after I
installed a new HDD and loaded the OS (XP Pro in this case) from
scratch. I went to the HP download/drivers site and found the keyboard
and pointing device driver. The file was dated 3-years old but the
skipping letters problem immediately went away after installing this
driver and doing the requisite reboot.
