Default No Sound Problem in Windows Vista

Recently I've been having this problem with my sound and I'm not sure
what caused it or how to fix it. After every restart my sound does
not work. Everything appears to be fine on my machine, the computer
detects my speakers, it's not on mute, the volume is turned up, and
when I play any audio it even shows the sound levels on the sound bar
but nothing is coming out of my speakers. If I reinstall my sound
drivers (the most recent ones, I've checked) my sound works on the
restart done by the driver install. But if I restart again the sound
is gone again until I reinstall the drivers. Reinstalling drivers
every single time I turn my computer off and on is not a viable
solution, so can somebody please help? I'm running Vista Ultimate x64
and a X-Fi Xtreme Music soundcard.

Update, now it doesn't even fix my sound to reinstall the newest
drivers, I've lost sound and can't get it back no matter what I do.
Yet the computer still shows that there is nothing wrong.

I tried plugging my speakers into my onboard audio today and the audio
works.

Even though I have the onboard audio set up for surround, though, and
it tests every speaker in my setup fine I can't get any sound from my
surround or sub when playing an audio file.
