Default File sharing between Vista Ultimate (64 bit) and XP

I have two computers: Desktop running Win XP and a notebook running Vista
Ultimate (64 bit)
The network set up quite easily and I seem to be able to do everything
except save from the notebook (Vista) to the desktop (XP).

When working on the XP machine I can retrieve files and save files to the
public folders that are on the Vista machine. But when working on the Vista
machine, although I can navigate through all of the shared folders and
retrieve files from the XP machine, I can't save to the XP machine??? I
select 'save as', navigate to the network and down to the shared folder that
I want and click save - it will even notice that there is a file with a
duplicate name and ask if I want to replace the file but when I select yes to
replace I get the error message: "There has been a network or file
permission error." The file on the XP machine is not "read only", although
the folder has an issue with the "read only" not turning off - done a lot of
reading about this but nothing has helped yet... Can you help?

I would like to add that the Vista machine will show the error mentioned
below when saving to the XP machine but does actually save an empty file on
the XP machine. This happens whether the firewall is turned on or off.

Default File sharing between Vista Ultimate (64 bit) and XP

After reading and reading the information in the posts, I have found nothing
that will stop the problem. I can still save and retrieve files from the
Vista machine while working on the XP machine, but when working on the Vista
machine I can retrieve, but when I save I get the error message and an empty
file is saved on the XP machine. Any other specific ideas?
