More of the same. XP Home SP2 ("LAPTOP") can access Vista Premium ("DESKTOP") shares over (private) Home Network ("WORKGROUP"), but Vista can't access XP shares. NetBios enabled on both machines, even installed NetBeui. Nothing. "\\LAPTOP is not accessible..." "Access is denied." NET USE \\LAPTOP completes succesfully. (from DESKTOP) NET USE \\DESKTOP completes succesfully. (from LAPTOP) Meanwhile radmin3 is twirling it's balls, wondering what all the commotion is about. -- FireBall ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FireBall's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=35074 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=852791 http://forums.techarena.in |

Robert, you mentioned permissions as the likely problem, but I can't figure out how to change settings in XP Home SP2. As far as I know, there is only the checkbox (properties\share) to allow network users the right to change files. Since XP is inaccessible from Vista while Vista is accessible from XP, I'm assuming the problem is somewhere in my XP Home setup. Robert, I installed 'FaJo XP File Security Extension (XP FSE)' (http://www.fajo.de/portal/index.php?...tpage&Itemid=1) on my XP Home SP2 machine ("LAPTOP"). In effect it adds the "missing" security tab. ('FaJo interface.' (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b17/rrzzrr/FaJo.jpg)) When attempting to add a user, the locations dialogue (properties\security\add\locations) lists LAPTOP, but the Vista Premium machine ("DESKTOP") can't be found. Which strikes me as strange. DESKTOP can be accessed from LAPTOP (files transfer to/from/delete/change), but it can't be found when looking up users?
