Default Virgin Broadband Says She Has No Ethernet Card!! Help Please!

my friend has bought a new computer today from Currys. It has Windows Vista
on (I don't know which version of vista) She has 160gb Hard drive, 1GB Ram
not sure what processor. When she tries to install the Virgin Broadband
software/disc it tells her she has no ethernet card. I checked for her that
her ethernet port not only showed in network connections but was enabled but
still no joy. Virgin are no help as they say it is a hardware problem and not
with theirr broadband. I know I haven't given much info but any ideas would
be grately appreciated!
Thanks In Advance

You don't need to use the virgin broadband disk to use the service
Just make sure windows is set up to auto detect network settings and it
should work fine
