I am running Vista Ultimate (32 bit). I have a strange problem which has been
driving me crazy. My network will suddenly cut off access to any webservers, ftp servers, or fileshares. It has happened numerous times for no apparent reason. Everything will be working fine and between page loads in my browser, the network will go non-responsive. I still have an IP address, I can still ping my gateway, and I can still resolve names. If I tracert to a webserver, I see the full path normally. However, if I ping a webserver outside my LAN, I get no response. If I try to FTP to a server, it times outs. I can ping to my internal fileserver, but browsing to it by name or by ip \\192.168.x.y gives a message "Windows cannot find '\\192.168.x.y'. Check the spelling and try again. It seems as if a major part of my network stack just shuts down, and the only way I have found to restore it is to reboot the system. Disabling and re-enabling the NIC does not help. Any ideas what is going on or what I can do about it? |
