Ok I have been researching this the past couple days and all I can really
find is minor details about file sharing. I have 2 PCs through ethernet and 2 wireless laptops all together through my router. All are on the same workgroup. All can see each other and access each other. But what I want is to be able to share folder x with laptop b and folder y with laptop a but not both folders to both computers. Preferably one won't even see the folder if its not shared to that pc. So can someone help me out with some details on how to accomplish this? I am not a newb, I know my way around pc's so it doesn't have to be totally dumbed down. Or at least point me to an article that explains in detail because I cant find it. I have always networked the pcs the simplest way I knew how because it was only me using the feature but now I have some kids in the house and would like them to be able to access certain folders but not some others. Thanks for any help you could give even if you tell me its not possible. Oh I am using Vista Ult on the main machine I am giving access to folders, XP Home on another Lan one, Vista Home Premium on a laptop and XP Home on the other laptop if it makes a difference. |

With 2 computers running XP Home (and Simple File Sharing), anything that's accessible through the network to anybody will be accessible to everybody. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...indows-xp.html If you only care about sharing from the computer running Vista Ultimate, though, just enable Password Protected Sharing, setup non-Guest accounts on each client computer, and assign rights to the various accounts on the server (the computer running VU). http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html You'll have challenges with the clients running XP Home, and never caching authentication, but you can make it work. http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#NonGuest http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0....html#NonGuest -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
