Default 4 out of 6 usb slots just stopped working

i just built a new machine, dual core amd, asus motherboard. When i
installed vista premium x64 everything worked fine for 3 days. Now i
change location (went home from friends house), and all of a sudden only
2 of my usb ports are working. It seems they get power because when i
try to plug in my logitech optical gaming mouse the light flashes just
briefly and then nothing. The two usb slots that are working aren't
anywhere near each other either, one is on the front of the case and the
other in back. Please anyone with ideas--is this a vista problem? I
should also mention that i have linux, opensuse 10.3 on this as well,
and the usb has the same issues. I have went into safe mode and
uninstalled all the usb components twice now, and there is never any
exclamations or errors given. the slots just don't work.

Hi,

Check for loose connections on the motherboard, you may need to reseat them.

i have a similar problem only i have 2 of 6 ports that do not work, one
in front, one in back. As for the one in back it was working, I had my
mouse plugged into it, went to bed and when i got up that morning it no
longer worked there. The mouse does work in any other port. I had
previously also had a printer and scanner plugged in but by the time the
ports went out they had not been plugged in for months (and at least one
reformat) so I do not believe workload is the problem. There where no
changes made to my knowledge the night this happened, and there is no
one else here who could.

them.

The back one is built into the mobo and does not apply, as for the
front one i have moved my connectors from usb 5/6 to 7/8 and 9/10 all
with the same result.

I am starting to get desperate as I am in need of the vacant slot and
do not wish to go buy a powered hub and do not have the room for a pci
slot. All other things I have seen on the internet have all usb ports or
individual devices that dont work on certain computers.
