Default Upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium no audio device installed

Ive tried to update/reinstall and it says its working but no sound every
comes out. TThe speaker has a red x through it Help?

I had this problem with an Asus A7N8X-E mobo. I installed the XP sound
driver in compatibility mode and sound was obtained. If you right
click on the driver installation file, and choose the properties tab,
select compatibility mode, for XP SP2. I'm not sure it will work for
other hardware, but it might.
