Default Remote Assistance: Firewall Configuration?

Forwarding port 3389 in my router had NO impact on making my friend's
RA request work when I tried to connect (XP or Vista)- still got the
cannot connect message. Not big surprise since the address in the ticket
only shows his local address behind his DSL modem/router.

What DID work (without Port forwarding) was to have him send the RA
request via Instant Messenging (Live Messenger)to me; the session worked
as expected and I could control his machine.

Obviously something else needs to be set somewhere when the RA ticket is
sent via email, but since RA works via an IM setup I am not going to
lose sleep over it.
