5.1 External Sound Card - Vista Problem
 

Hi all,

I'm not sure if you are aware but Vista comes with a new Sound control
panel, which allows you to configure the device based on what it is. My
current system is that I have a laptop with only a headphone socket (2.1
sound). I have previously bought an external sound card for Windows XP Media
Edition, and that worked to convert the sound into 5.1 sound.

The new Vista configure options should house the option for me to be able to
change the output to the External Sound card as being 5.1, but here is my
problem:

Like a lot of my Vista control panel pages, it fails to load. When I click
on configure , there is a RunDDL error, and consequently it and Explorer die.
It does that regardless of time, or applications running. Do you know if
there is any way of getting my Vista control panel to actually work, without
the need of paying £45 to consult microsoft about their problem.

As with all hardware you need a driver, look on the sound card manufactures
web site for a Vista driver for the hardware you have. If the hardware isn't
Vista compatable with a supported driver its not going to work.

5.1 External Sound Card - Vista Problem
 

It is absolutely nothing to do with my driver not working, nor it being
windows Vista compatible. My windows vista control panel in general just
doesn't work.

I cannot click on configure for my default sound for my laptop, as if I do,
I get a run time error and explorer dies. The same happens when I attempt to
find out more about a blocked program on vista, and equally it happens when I
try to use the new picture and fax viewer (Windows Photo Gallery).
