Hi,
Two machines. Server running Vista home basic and client running Vista business, both on the same private network and workgroup, both have network discovery printer sharing file sharing on. I installed a printer on the server which prints fine locally. The problem is, it looks like everything I do from the client need to be authenticated, meaning: 1. when i search for a network printer from the client I can't find it, unless I browse to the server, which required entering a user name password of a server user account 2. when i try to browse to the server from "Network" in explorer, I always have to enter a user name, password 3. when I print from the client using the network printer, it fails. However, if I do 2., which is to connect to the server at least once entering the user name password, i can print. It looks like unless I get authenticated on the server I can't print. So now every time now i try to use the network printer i have to at least once click the server in "network", enter user name password, then I can print. Is this normal? Thanks. Nick |

If you create a user on both machines with the same name/password, you should be able to print without being asked for a password. Here are two ways to create and modify users: - Config panel - User accounts - Right click Computer - Manage - Local Users and Groups |
