Setting up two notebooks (see below) for Christmas Day presents on behalf of
my neighbour and destined for his daughters

Working on first one and have a problem in that DVD cannot now be seen by
"My Computer" or via Windows Explorer. It was there as I used it to burn
“Driver Utilities� DVD.

Device Manager shows error code 39 - Windows cannot load the device driver
for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing.

Problem arose after download and install of 12 high priority updates via
windows auto updates.

I've read and followed Article ID : 314060 (You can no longer access the CD
drive or the DVD drive.................) and the following is comments put in
"How was it for you" box

.............."Didn't work for me. Notebook where problem arose is Fujitsu
Siemans Esprimo Mobile v5535 with HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device. Brand
new notebook

Only Lowerfilter shown in key, deleted and notebook restarted but still DVD
not visible. LowerFilter confirmed deleted. DVD was working as used to burn
Driver Utilities DVD.

Issue only arose AFTER auto updates kicked in and downloaded and installed
12 high priority vista (home basic) updates"...........

Can anyone point me to a compatible driver, not effected by any updates, or
otherwise advise me how to restore DVD visibilty and use?????

You didn't read all my post. Please do so and you will see I've already
implemented so called solution. I didn't work for me. I reported this back
to Microsoft in their "How was it for me " response box

I read it all right. Hence my post

You deleted the Upper and Lower Filters. Which ones. Upper Filter bak or just Upper Filter. The same with the Lower Filter

Are you sure you read it?. Only one filter was showing - LowerFilter as I
stated - No UpperFilter or bak's mentioned. This one filter deleted but
made no difference. However............

As I had to identical notebooks bought at same time from same retailer, I
was going to export and import
entire registry from "good" machine to "bad" making assumption something
corrupt here. I'd already tried copying cdrom.sys across

I gave up on the idea of registry import as for some strange reason one is
running NIS 2007 and Nero, The other AVAST! AV and nothing ? I'll get owner
to take this up with Retailer as I assume retailer loads software.

I was also going to report that I couldn't perform system restore which,
when run from Accessories/system tools folder, was true. Failed on every
restore point I tried.

Decided to change boot order in BIOS to start from DVD which from Windows
viewpoint didn't exist.

On restart PC hung, I opened DVD tray and got effective F8 option screen.
Closed DVD and went for the Repair option and then Restore . Went back to
day notebook opened and started for first time. This time it said successful
completion (!?!)

"My Computer" now shows DVD in Windows and all expected desktop icons as
seen when notebook first powered on.

I can't give any viable reasons why things worked this way, but at least I'm
back in business.

Hello there. I am experienceing the same issue with an MSI L-735 with
the same drive.

I followed the article but I need to tell you something.

The article is for Windows XP.

If you could provide a article for Vista, and not XP, that would be
appreciated.
