No, the gateway (vBulletin site?) will not close. Only certain
newsgroups (the ones in the microsoft hierarchy) will become unavailable
if no longer hosted.

....and no, this is not a forum in the 'web forum' sense, this is a
newsgroup in the network news transfer protocol sense (a usenet on the
internet thing).
