Default WinXP to Vista Upgrade

snipped

Yep. My bad. Thought I was in WindowsUpdate.

So the OP should give some details.

Windows XP _______ Edition with Service Pack _?

Windows Vista _______ Edition is what is trying to be upgraded to?

Is AntiVirus software installed still? (My recommendation is to
disconnect from the internet and uninstall AntiVirus software, any
third party firewalls and any active antimalware software before
attempting the upgrade.)

Amount of free space on the system drive (usually C:\)?

Amount of system RAM (memory)?

Type of processor (*how many cores?)

Make/model of video device? Any 'control' software for said video
device installed? (My recommendation - drivers only - no extra
software like Catalyst for ATI, etc.)

Last time you did a full CHKDSK?

Last time you defragmented?

Is there anything - AFAYK - wrong with the current system or is it
clean and fully functional?

24 hours after the original posting. Either the OP figured it out or is
distracted by other things. ;-)
