Excuse the cross-posting but this is obscure...
This is really beginning to bug me, but I'm not sure whether it is Vista (Home Premium) or Word XP... of the fact that the files are on a FAT32* device... I work in Word all day - macro code takes regular backups** and saves them to the document folder... At the end of the day the document is closed and word is quit - all cleanly... but often one of the earlier backups*** remains "in use" - and often the main document too... Also, sometimes even when I haven't touched a file recently when I try to open it, it opens "Read Only"... (are these problems related?) I notice the problem when I use SyncToy to backup the day's work - it cannot access these files because they are "in use"... Anyone have any ideas? Julian *It's a Steganos Safe - an encrypted file mounted and mapped as a drive (and shared for UNC indexing... which works!) ** Save twice and then rename the .wbk file... (because Word does not have a "Save Copy As" feature) *** Especially odd since it was a rename of the .wbk file -- Julian I-Do-Stuff Some Vista stuff, but mostly just Stuff at http://berossus,blogspot.com |
