Yest another multi boot question ..
Previous setup: 2 hard drives, one with XP on and one with RC1 on with a dual boot - first Vistas then XP's I downloaded the latest build and went through the install process - for some annoying reason, I chose to delete the Vista RC1 partition to do a clean install of RC2 The problem I have now - is that when vista boots, it no longer seems to know there is a dual OS setup as it just boots straight into Vista When looking in the boot config option from My Computer, there is only the Vista OS listed, no option to multiboot with XP. Does anyone know how i can resolve this as I can no longer boot into my XP system Thanks Simon |

Hi Simon,
I have a multiboot system too. Here is what I did. 1. installed XP on 1st hard drive 2. Installed Vista on 2nd hard drive 3. Changed the boot order (was Vista then XP) by: Control Panel System Advanced System Settings Advanced tab under Startup & Recovery Settings under System Startup changed the order. Hope this helps?! See http://www.vistabootpro.org/intro.php which is an easy way to edit the Vista boot manager to boot to other operating systems. You'll need to ensure the boot.ini, ntdetect.com and ntldr system files are on the root directory of the drive you want to boot into the existing XP system. Thanks again, Bob. |

I think part of my problem is that when I deleted my vista partition to reinstall Vista, it also deleted the boot.ini, ntdetect.com and the ntdlr files Not quite sure how to get those back :S Simon |

Simon,
Can you still boot to XP? If not if you still have XP on drive 1 try booting from teh XP CD and do a repair (think that is what it is called - or is it rescue). When you get to the c:\windows prompt type fixmbr. This will rebuild the master boot record and allow you to reboot. If you can boot to Vista use the search feature to lookup boot.ini. Apparently boot.ini is gone in Vista and replaced with Boot Configuration Data (BCD). Jeff "pleb" wrote: "pvdg42" wrote in message ... "pleb" wrote in message ... Yest another multi boot question .. Jeff Hi Jeff - part of the problem is that for some reason the PC wont boot with both hdd's and the DVD drive all connected. This maybe connincidence from installing Vista or just a dodgy PSU (as I've been told). Either way booting the PC with a working HDD and optical drive is proving tricky Time will tell :S Simon |

Simon,
Hmmm... sounds odd. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to boot from the DVD drive at startup. Can you change your BIOS to allow for DVD/CD booting? I have used bootdisks to start before http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Let me know how you make out. Jeff "pleb" wrote: "Jeff" wrote in message ... Simon, Can you still boot to XP?
