Default vista networking

have two vista ultimate vm's both have 192.168.1.x addresses and can ping
default gateway and use the internet from the host nic in virtual pc 2007.
Problem is no matter what configs I try whether private network with network
discovery on and firewall on or off, they cannot ping each other by IP let
alone computer name. What am I missing ? There is no third party software
installed, just created the vm's today.

thanks
