Error COOD1199
 

I have vista home premium with windows media player and when i try to play
videos from my digital cam it keeps saying it doesnt support this file and i
get error code cood1199. My camera doesnt have sound on it is that why?? I am
new to computers so if anyone can help that would be great!!!

What camera?

What format does the camera use to record videos (the last three letters in the
file name after the dot )?

If it is .MOV, then it is a QuickTime file and you need to install QuickTime
from apple.com. QuickTime files do not playback in Windows Media Player.

Cal Bear, maybe you can help me, too. I get the same error code when I ask
Media Player to play a file with a ".email" extension. I'm running Vista,
with the latest (presumably) Media Player. I've tried opening in "Windows
Mail" and in "Outlook." On my old XP machine I used Outlook Express, and
could never open .email files. I have a handful of correspondents that open
..email files, no problem. I've tried several methods suggested in MS
articles. (One suggested I save as ".eml" file, but I don't know how to do
that.) Technologically impaired...Thanks

Easy -- right click on a file with an .email extension Open With Choose
Default Program... Browse button navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows
Mail\WinMail.exe highlight WinMail.exe press the Open button in the Open
With... window make sure the "Always use the selected program..." checkbox is
checked in the Open With window and press OK.

Problem. I navigated to C:\Program Files\Windows Mail....When I get there,
there is no WM.exe. I get a list: en-us, Wab, Wabwig, WindowsMailgadget,
WinMail. When I click on WinMail, screen goes immediately to Open With: 2
recommended programs 1) Windows Mail and 2) Windows Media Player. Now when I
click on any .email file, it opens my Windows Mail Inbox! And now I can't get
it to stop trying to open with WindowsMail. How doI get WindowsMail deleted
from the Recommended Programs...? Alas.

Cal, I did find, in en-US, 3 things: one of them is "winmail.exe.mui" Should
I navigate to that?

OK -- I am very, very sorry -- what I told you does NOT work with Windows Mail.
I am so sorry.

It looks like the best (only?) thing to do is to rename the .email files to .eml
(right click on the file and select rename. Use the arrow key to move the cursor
to the right of the dot and then delete email and type in eml. Press Enter and
accept the warning about renaming files. THEN... you will have to drag the files
into a folder (you can drop them onto a folder icon in the left folders view or
into the right message list pane) in an open instance of Windows Mail and drop
them into a folder. This will COPY the files to a Windows Mail folder and then
you can read them like any other e-mail.

It seems that Windows Mail can only read and display files that are in it's own
folders AND with the .eml extension.

This seems very labor intensive, but after much experimentation it is the only
way I could get Windows mail to read and display .email files. I do not know how
to change only the file extension for multiple files.
