Default svchost.exe using up a lot of memory

Hi,

For the past few days I have noticed a performance hit of my computer,
I checked the task manager (as I expected the CPU usage to be quite
high) however it was only at 30%. I went into the performance tab and
noticed the following:

Physical Memory (MB)
Total 2045
Cached 1396
Free 0

however the graph above shows that I have about 50% of my memory free
(only using 1.01GB). Also, in the processes tab I noticed that svchost
is using up 77,816 K of Memory (private working set - unsure of what
that means)... so I am a bit confused as to why I have 50% of my
physical memory free (according to the graph), but then it also says I
don't have any free (according to the table shown above)? Also why the
svchost is taken up so much memory?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hello,

This is natural for vista because, it takes up lots of memory, check on the
internet thats why you need lots of RAM for vista, I dont know if it's its
just random processes or is it a group but there is nothing we can do until
a update or service pack fixes it.
