Can print documents, but not photos? Help please.
dcoaster;551517 Wrote: I have Vista Home Premium and a HP 2610 all-in-one printer. Just recently, I noticed it will not print photos from any program (Windows Explorer, Photo Gallery, Paint Shop Pro, etc), yet it will print documents from Word or Firefox. For example, if I'm in Explorer and double click a picture file and click print, I select the printer and click "print" yet the printer doesn't do anything. I do notice however that once I click print an icon comes up on the system tray that says "0 documents pending for (user name)". Shouldn't that mean "1 document pending"? I used to be able to print photos so this isn't a problem with the printer or driver (or at least it shouldn't be?) First, I made sure I used the correct 4x6 photo paper and all settings were correct. Didn't work. I made sure I had the latest driver from HPs website. Didn't work. Next, I uninstalled everything and started over. Didn't work. Next, I hard resetted the printer. Didn't work. Tried a new beta version of HP Photosmart software. Didn't work. So I'm lost. It's got to be something with Vista, but what is it? HP has no idea. Thanks for any help. I am having the same issue and I can't seem to resilve it! Regular documents print fine, but I can't print 4x6 photos. I have a Photosmart 2610. I reinstalled updated drivers and everything. Did you ever find a solution? Thanks! -- mkuenne |

, but I can't print 4x6 photos. Any error messages or do the print on normal sized paper instead? If so check the Properties / Advanced of the printer to see if it is set up to use the 4 x 6 paper "tray". |

The odd thing is the Job pops into the Print queue for just a second and then dissapears. Non photo jobs print just fine. I have also been able to successfully able to print to other printers. Seeing that this used to work, I am wondering if it has to do with a Microsoft Update, etc. Maybe Vista SP1 could have a 'magical fix' Any other ideas? -- mkuenne |

Maybe Vista SP1 could have a 'magical fix' I wouldn't bet on it fixing anything that goes wrong and it could break a few things that work so I would not try it as a cure for anything -- unless specifically mentioned in its Readme file. I can't think of a quick answer as to why it should not print photos. What software did you install? From a CD or downloaded from the HP website? How is the device connected to the PC? USB? What version of VISTA are you using? |

The device is attached via USB. Did you disconnect the USB cable from the printer to the PC at the PC end before you installed the software from HP? That is essential for USB connected devices especially if there is a generic or simplified driver in the operating system package already. If there is then Windows grabs control and installs that instead of the newer one from HP. Do disconnect the USB cable from the PC, delete any icons for the printer that shows in Printers / Folders or elsewhere, uninstall any HP Software relating to the printer using Control Panel / Remove Programs, and then reboot the PC. To reinstall the HP software, locate the file you downloaded: AIO_CDB_Full_Network_enu.exe (163.07M) RIGHT mouse click on it and select Run as Administrator in the context menu that comes up and OK your way out until it starts installing. Don't connect the USB cable until the installation procedure tells you to or you reach [Finish]. It can often help to disable any antivirus program and firewall program you may have before starting the installation, but don't forget to re- enable them again afterwards! Note that the VISTA Home Premium does not include the VISTA Fax and Scan Utility so you will have to rely on HP's or another third party application to achieve this. But let's cross that bridge when you get there! |

Still no luck - I tried hooking this u to another computer and same problem (Vista also) With all the printer sales recently, I may just relegate myself to another printer. Its just too bad as this one worked great! I am s Mike -- mkuenne |

I'm sorry I can't try to help you any more since you just do not answer
the questions I ask in order to understand what is happening. Good luck. |

I actually did answer your questions, just not one by one... I tried disconnecting the USB doing a complete uninstall, then a reinstall using the newest update from the HP website. I also tried it again using the Run As command. My account is the Computer Administrator anyway. I also disabled the Windows firewall and my Antivirus (AVG) and also SpySweeper. I also went an additional step and uninstalled Adobe Photoshop elements in case there was a conflict... -- mkuenne |
