I have Vista HP on my laptop and have a network of three PCs two of which
have XP Pro and one has Vista H. My Vista machine can network and share as normal, like I did quite easily with XP Pro, however Vista & XP have issues. My Vista machines can look and work with my XP machines without limitations, however my XP machines can't do the same. I keep getting asked for a password. I would just like to share a few drives and folders like I have always done. Can anyone offer assistance as this is now getting anoying. Hope you have all had a happy Christmas and I trust you'll have a happy New Year. All the best for 2008. Lloyd |

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. How to give Permissions are there, too. 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer. Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard. "Lloyd Codrington" wrote: I have Vista HP on my laptop and have a network of three PCs two of which have XP Pro and one has Vista H. Thanks for your reply.
I have tried this solution which I found as an answer to another post. But still not having trouble. Ah just tried something and seem to have found the answer.... Password not set on other computers. As it's a laptop I have a password on my Vista machine. But not on the others as they are alread in a secure enviroment. Thanks for your time anyway.... Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year. Lloyd.
