A short time back I set up the Windows Indexing to only search a specific
directory (I'll call it DECEMBER). Everything was going well for a while but now the Indexing feature doesn't work at all. I did some research and one suggestion was to go into the start regedit, log on as administrator, and go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search directory and make sure the DataDirectroy value (right pane) has this location: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search Data. I did this and noted that my system did not have this. Instead it had C:\December\Search Data. I changed it to the above and rebooted. That didn't solve the problem. It reverted right back to C:\December\Search Data. I tried recreating a new DataDirectory but couldn't 'cause the directory already exists. I tried renaming the current DataDirectory but it wouldn't allow me to rename. Deleting ... nope. How do I get the changes to "take." Right now, I can't use the indexing feature at all. |
