Default printing remotely

i purchased a new laptop which runs windows vista. i connect via a router to
a desktop running windows xp. i have a printer connected to the desktop. i
want to print to the desktop printer from the laptop (remember each running
different versions of windows) but i cannot get the laptop to find the
printer. is this a problem because i am using two different versions of
windows?

Using different OS should not be the issue. However, can you see the XP
computer by using net view \\xphostname? If not, post back with the system
error code.
