The system restore function is not working properly on my Vista home
premium (which has RAID 1).

In the system protection tab, the box for available disks just says
"searching..". I cannot create a restore point or open the system
restore application.

After perusing various tech forums, I came across the below solution
posted by Jill Zoeller [MSFT] (6/12/2007):

Go to an elevated command prompt and type the following commands one at
a
time:

Vssadmin list shadowstorage /for=c:
note the shadow storage size for use later

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /for=c: /on=c: /maxsize=300MB

create a restore point

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /for=c: /on=c: /maxsize=original value

This solution worked like charm. I got the system restore application
back and was able to create restore points. However, every time I
reboot the computer, the problem resurfaces and I'd have to repeat the
above steps to get system restore working again.

After re-establishing system restore, I once tried doing a selective
reboot, turning off startup items and non-MS services, to see if a 3rd
party application was affecting this, but the problem persisted. I even
tried bringing it up in Safe mode to no avail. Have also updated my
BIOS.

The solution above only fixes the problem temporarily and I'm lost as
to how to fix it permanently. Any thoughts?
