Anyone can install For FREE the Apprentice version of Houdini from
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?opti...9&Item id=221 All versions of Houdini 9 (paid or free) use the local web server to display the Houdini help files content. Boy is it ever slow on released x64 Vista!! I worked once with Houdini 9 on a Linux box, and wow, the help displays right quick. So, it can be done... Maybe it's due to code in Houdini 9.0, or maybe it's another manifestation of the notorious slow Vista file copying problem. I have reported this to the good folks at Houdini, and now I have reported it here. It's already fast on Linux; things that make you go hmmmm... Here's hoping that when Vista SP1 ships and a later build of Houdini 9 is out, that either Side Effects Houdini code or Vista code (or both) has amped up the speed of Houdini 9 help on Vista.
