New to Vista so excuse me if this has been asked before.

I play Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, and in its Tracks folder there are many files
(all of the tracks installed in the game). Any tracks that I've downloaded
and put in this directory, or that I create and save to this directory are
not displayed in Windows Explorer until I hit a button called "Compatibility
Files" which appears to the right of the "Burn" icon. Why don't they appear
normally?

I'm trying to upload my created tracks to a track database online. The site
asks you to hit the "browse" button. I do, but when the browse dialog
appears and I go to the Tracks folder, there isn't the "Compatibility Files"
icon, so I can't "see" the files I want to upload to the database. Anyone
else having these type of problems?

You are placing files in locations reserved for the system use. In order to
allow older programs that did not place data files in the recommended places
in XP a compatibility technique was implemented that actually saves files in
a file that 'looks' like it is where the program thinks it is saving but is
actually in a user specific area. The compatibility button shows where the
files are actually placed with their real contents. Without the
compatibility button, what you see is the ORIGIONAL setting/contents when
the program was installed. All changes and additions are in your user
specific area.



You did not say where the directory is but I suspect it is something like
c:\program files\game name\data

the area 'program files' is for program files (executables for instance) not
for user data (your layouts for instance).

If the programs provides the option, save your game data in 'documents\game
name' or similar.

You can either do thing MS's way or have a more interesting experience with
Vista.
