Default Wireless Network Connection Status

I am using a Centrino-Duo Core Laptop.
When i connected to Wireless, the connection is slow even though there isn't
any webpage loaded.
The Activity status shown in the Wireless Network Connection Status is
always very high which goes up to 100,000,000 bytes or higher even when I
only try to load Yahoo.com page...I've tried to scan for virus & spyware,
there isn't anything found.
I also tried to access the same page using a Windows XP, the speed is much
more faster and the activity status is normal with less than 500,000bytes..
Pls help.

How far away from the wireless unit is the laptop? If over about 20 feet
try using the laptop close to the wireless unit and see if the connection
speed increases.

Is there any chance your router is also busy transporting data for some
other wired connections concurrently?
Have you tried changing the channel number for the router wireless?
