I'm having the same issue. I plug in my ipod or a thumb drive and windows
media player comes up with an error message that it has stopped working. I
tried to reinstall the media player, which is a huge ordeal, but I finally
reinstalled it, however, it did not work still crashes when I plug something
in. I also tried to create a new user account and that didn't work either.
I'm just mentioning somethings that you might want to try, but didn't work
out for me. if you've found a solution please share it.

How did you "reinstall" the player? That sounds dangerous to me.

What's the fault data for that crash you're running into now according to
the Problem Reports and Solutions center:
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
?
