Default Why does a BT-Network under Vista not reliably connect to the Internet?

I am trying to use my desktop (an XP system) as a
"Bluetooth-Basestation" for my laptop (a Vista box) - using Connection
sharing of the desktop's ethernet connection.

Occasionally this works fine, but too often, this setup refuses to work.
In such cases on the vista system the "network and sharing center" shows
a connection to a BT-network but the access line reads "Local only"
(instead of "Local and Internet" as it does when things work) and a
large red X on the line to the Internet. The underlying BT connection,
however, is fine, i.e. the device "see" each other, they can connect,
they can discover each others services, etc.

What can cause it, that this connection frequently falls back to "Local
only"? I have tried numerous times to dis- and re-enable the BT device,
"diagnose and repair" the connection and what not. Can one somehow kick
this darn Vista, so that it changes this connection's setting to "Local
and Internet"?

Vista has added more security features and IPv6, which may not be compatible
with other devices such as NIC and router. If you have tried to upgrade the
firmware and driver, installed Microsoft update, and can't wait for the sp1,
you may tried to remove the IPv6. This how to may help.
