Default Samsung phone (external USB drive) not really working..... why?

Hello.

I have a Samsung SCH-F679 CDMA phone with a Micro-SD memory card slot.
In there i have a 2GB Micro-SD which works just excellent.

When i hook that phone up to a XP Computer and chose "connect to PC" in
the phone menu (which basically disables the phone, making it a "thumb
drive") it is correctly detected as an "external drive" and i can access
it fine thru "My Computer", see all folders on the Micro-SD card and can
drag/drop or copy/paste as well as delete files.

Not so in Vista, teste don my own Ultimate 32bit as well as a coleagues
Home Premium (i believe 32bit as well).

There it too detects the "external drive" but comes up with "The disk
in drive N: (or whatever drive letter assigned) has to be formatted
before you can continue. Do you want to format it now?" I have once
tested if i CAN actually format it - it fails with "error: access is
denied". In a card reader that card shows up as a regular
FAT32-formatted 2 GB memory card without any problems (it was formatted
by the phone, even first formatting it with the PC yields no success -
same result).

What can i do to make this work as it does under XP? It is kind of
stupid having to take out the memory card and search for the adaptor
thingy to use the internal card reader on the PC each time i want to
upload an mp3 or picture when i HAVE the data cable for the phone (and
no, there is no Vista-compatible software suite from Samsung yet
available, either).

Appreciate any help.......

your Thanh
